Altenweiher Lake

Description:
The Altenweiher lake is located at the end of the Mittlach valley. At an altitude of 926 metres, it is surrounded by the peaks of the Kastelberg and the Rainkopf. Its surface area is 7,5 ha and its depth is 14 m. A straight dam, 112 m long, 15 m high and 4 m wide at the top, built from 1886 to 1889, makes it a reservoir of 70 cubic metres.

The Altenweiher lake is accessible on foot from the village of Mittlach (1 hour walk) or from the ridges (45 min walk downhill). A golden carriage is said to have been swallowed up there.
