Work to widen the Route du Ried (from Luttenbach to the Col du Petit Ballon) began on July 8. The path below the Furch between the Route du Ried and the Baechlé (Circuit du Solberg red ring and Chevalet Vert) is closed. Take the red disc that goes directly from the Baechlé to the Furch.
Since May 1st, the Rock Trail, the Corridors Trail, the Bloy Trail, the Hirschsteine Trail (closed in winter by prefectural decree of May 18, 2022) are open again.
The GR 531 blue rectangle trail which goes from Lake Schiessrothried to Kerbholtz is closed by Municipal decree due to scree under the Spitzkoepfe ridge.
Another trail that is closed for part of the year is the Yellow-White-Yellow marked trail that goes from the Col d'Oberlahchen to the shelter of the Col de Lauchen via the summit of Klintzkopf. Hikers are diverted by the GR532 Yellow Rectangle that goes around the summit. At 1329 m above sea level, Klintzkopf is the 5th highest peak in the Vosges; it is the highest point of the Petit Ballon chain. The summit section is steep and marked by a scree slope. It is also characterized by abundant and rare flora and was a nesting area for the capercaillie. For these reasons, the summit is only accessible from July 1st to November 30th by Prefectural decree of January 8, 1993 which creates a small protected area of 115 ha around the mountain: The sworn agents of the ONF and the ONCFS are responsible for ensuring compliance with this decree: Any offender is liable to a fine of 750 euros. according to article 415-1-3 of the environmental code. Note that This order indicates that pedestrian access is authorized from July 16 to December 14, whereas the sign opposite only authorizes it from July 1 to November 30!
The section of path that leads directly from the Gaerstlerain farm to the Erichson chalet from Lac Vert (yellow disc) is in very poor condition. It's best to take the red disc or the forest path while you wait for it to be repaired.
