Description

It is in the outbuildings of the castle of the Saint-Etienne wine brotherhood in Kientzheim that the museum of the vineyard and wines of Alsace is located. Located in the heart of the Alsatian vineyard, it will introduce visitors to the thousand-year-old history of a vineyard of prestige and tradition. It is a tribute to the generations of winegrowers who have given the vineyard its letters of nobility.

A discovery not to be missed!

Castle of Kaysersberg - KAYSERSBERG VIGNOBLE

Former city of empire, Kaysersberg has its imperial castle. Built around 1200 in order to block the roads coming from Lorraine, the village is an important strategic place in the war between the Empire and the Dukes of Lorraine. An enormous cylindrical keep, one of the oldest round keeps in Alsace, whose walls are more than 4 m thick, is a curiosity in itself.

Inside this wall and under the protection of the dungeon, you can also admire the lordly dwelling with its pointed arch windows!

But above all, don't deprive yourself of a magnificent view: take the 122-step staircase that will lead you to enjoy a splendid panorama of Kaysersberg

the entrance to the valley on the mountain side, the vineyards and even Germany's Black Forest in good visibility.

Come and discover the castle with your family thanks to the scavenger hunt - the imperial city, one of the riddles to be solved in this emblematic place.

From the old town, two staircases and a path through the vineyards will take you to the remains.

    Castle of Wineck - KATZENTHAL

On the heights of Katzenthal stands the Château du Wineck, a historic monument built around 1200, in the 13th century, on a rocky spur.

It stands at an altitude of 330 metres and is nicknamed "the castle of the vines" because of the surrounding vineyards. A 20-metre keep is also part of this fortified castle, which today houses a small museum. The museum is open from 1st April to 1st November, on Sundays and public holidays from 2 pm to 6 pm and, depending on the weather, on request for groups of up to 10 people (French and German). Reservations required on 03 89 47 85 63.

From here, you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of part of the Alsace wine route and typical Alsatian villages.

Want more? Why not take this delightful hike between vineyards and forest, including the remains of the Wineck and a picnic.
