Theologist, historian, famous exegete. He is a novice at Saint-Grégoire abbey of Munster from 1690 to 1696, then he becomes under-prior (1704 to 1706). Abbott in Senones (Vosges) in 1728, he welcomes Voltaire in 1745.

Voltaire (1694 Paris -1778 Paris)


The famous writer and philosopher, sets in Colmar on October 4, 1753, advised by the historian Jean-Daniel Schoepflin. He stays till November 11, 1754, after visiting Senones and Plombières.

 In order to get the paper to write « Annales de l’Empire », Voltaire stays at the paper factoryof Luttenbach from October 13 to 28, 1753. The facory was founded about 1742 by Jean-Frédéric Schoepflin, brother of the historian Jean-Daniel Schoepflin.

 Voltaire met Dom Benoît Sinsart (1695-1776) administrator of the abbey of Munster in 1743, and abbott in 1745.
